The festive period is in full swing and we are all going to eat and drink too much and thoroughly enjoy doing it!
I normally offer detox advice for January when all the partying is over, but there is nothing more miserable than being ill over the festive period. So here are some really helpful suggestions to reduce the symptoms associated with an overloaded digestive system, stressed liver and compromised immunity:
Diet: Most of the food and drink we consume over the festive period is acidic. Make an effort to consume alkaline foods/drinks. Think of it like a bank account – if you start the day by depositing alkaline foods then you can enjoy the unhealthy but tasty acidic foods without going overdrawn. An excellent start to the day is a freshly squeezed lemon in warm (not hot) water. It is not only very good for you digestion, it is also very alkaline forming, so when you have that lovely coffee mid-morning you’ve already deposited some alkalinity. The best source of alkaline foods are green leafy vegetables, so instead of steak, chips and onion rings, try steak with fresh broccoli and spinach.
The Hangover: Whoever finds a cure for the hangover will be a very wealthy person! The best way of avoiding a hangover is to avoid drinking too much, but of course we are all human! Here are 2 excellent products that certainly reduce the symptoms of a hangover:
Magnesium: We store Magnesium in the liver and it is destroyed by alcohol. Replenishing our Magnesium levels keeps us full of energy, helps with sleep patterns and protects the nervous system
Milk Thistle: An excellent herb that has a protective effect on the liver and helps minimise toxic overload. Remember that the liver is the body’s main dumping ground for toxins
Digestion: We ask a lot of our digestion over Christmas. Despite the temptation, try not to consume too much processed sugar – it really is a poison! Here’s why:
- In tests, rats that had sugar removed from their diets lived twice as long
- It increases the risk of heart disease
- It suppresses the immunity and increases the risk of breast and colon cancer
- It disrupts the digestion and is a likely contributor to Crohn’s and Ulcerative colitis
- It is likely to increase ADHT, autism, depression, drowsiness and affects spatial awareness
- It causes a temporary rise in blood sugar and can lead to Diabetes
- It increases undesirable LDL cholesterol
- It causes obesity and increases the accumulation of visceral fat
- It causes the excretion of many vitamins and minerals
- It causes tooth decay and accelerates wrinkly skin
Products That Help With Digestion:
Probiotic E505: Keep the gut healthy despite the onslaught of excessive food and drink over Christmas. It assists with digestion, improves the immunity and has an alkalising effect on the digestive system.
Caprylic Acid: A beneficial dietary fat and a number of herbs that cleanse the gut and eliminate candida albicans, which are generated from too much refined sugar. It assists with digestion and prevents constipation.
The Immunity: No-one likes to be ill over Christmas and you can improve your immune system firstly with a more alkaline diet but also with these foodstate products:
Multi-Antioxidant with Co-Q10: Contains 5 potent antioxidants that bind to toxins and remove them from the body before they do damage
Vitamin C: It is a potent antioxidant which supports the immune system, which is why we tend to take heavy-dose Vitamin C in winter, especially when we can sense the start of a cold or flu
Wishing You A Healthy Christmas!
