Alzheimers: Simple But Effective Help

Alzheimers: Simple But Effective Help

In Research Probiotics Help Alzheimers Sufferers: Research in recent years has shown a clear improvement in mental function of Alzheimers sufferers with the use of Probiotics

Why do they work?

We know that Alzheimers is an inflammatory condition and we also know that changes in gut bacteria enhance inflammation. Disruption in gut bacteria could therefore logically hasten brain degeneration in Alzheimers sufferers. Research has demonstrated that where there is a loss of diversity in gut organisms, as measured in populations in various countries, a direct correlation exists to increased prevalence of Alzheimer’s in those populations

Could this change the life of 40 million sufferers worldwide?

Potentially yes, which is very exciting when we consider that we currently have no cure for this condition. In a recent study, a cognitive assessment was made of a group of 60 patients over 12 weeks, half on a probiotic and half on a placebo. The results were stunning, with the placebo group showing continued mental decline, but the probiotic group showed a significant decline in inflammation. The hope was that the probiotic would stop brain function decline, but it actually improved brain function amongst subjects!

A Sad Fact:

The UK government gave £20 million this year for research to tackle the dementia epidemic, yet none of it has been spent on prevention. Since 2006 the UK research councils have spent £140 million on research, but only 0.1% (£156,000) has been spent on prevention. Over $40billion has been spent globally on developing drugs, all of which have failed

An Important Message:

Inflammation is directly determined by healthy, balanced gut bacteria. It has major implications for brain function for a number of diseases where inflammation is an underlying cause, like Parkinson’s, multiple sclerosis, diabetes, coronary artery disease, and even cancer

Omega 3 Fish Oil: It is referred to as “brain food” because it improves our memory and levels of concentration, with obvious implications for Alzheimers and Dementia sufferers. It also supports heart function and circulation, 2 additional important health benefits for elderly people
