Underactive Thyroid?

- 15% – 20% of women over 60 are affected by Hypothyroidism

- The clearest sign of an underactive thyroid is a low basal temperature when waking in the morning. Hypothyroidism is characterized by under-activity of the thyroid gland resulting in insufficient production of thyroid hormones

- Hypothyroidism occurs most frequently in women over the age of 40, however men and teenagers are also prone to it

- Hypothyroidism is believed to be more prevalent than once thought. Approximately 50% of people with hypothyroidism are unaware that they have it and interestingly 1 in 4,000 babies are born with congenital hypothyroidism
